  • American Red Cross Lay Responder Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED with First Aid

    Get certified in CPR/AED for adults, children, and infants and first aid from the American Red Cross. Learn the skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for breathing and cardiac emergencies as well as the recognition and treatment of stroke, diabetic emergencies, and allergic reactions as well as treatments for wounds, fractures, burns, and other common injuries. CPR/AED Training takes place on Monday night. First Aid takes place on Thursday night. If you would like to take both please be sure to enroll in 5510SuA and 5510SuB.     Flowers are blooming all around us - take advantage of this time to learn how to compose and paint floral watercolors. From a photograph or your favorite garden, we will sketch, compose and create a watercolor flower painting from light tones to dark. We will also review watercolor supplies, what paper to use, the properties of paint, color mixing, and how to compose a painting. Full supply list included in confirmation notes.     Minnesota is home to a number of amphibians and reptiles and some of these call the Belwin Conservancy home. Hike this beautiful and diverse area to seek out the reptiles and amphibians that live here. We will discuss their life cycles, explore their habitats, and discover what makes these animals so special. Prepare to hike on trail and off for a good share of the time. Closed toed hiking shoes or rubber boots, long pants, tick protection, and a water bottle are highly recommended.     Explore the prairie of Belwin Conservancy and immerse yourself in the late summer colors and textures of the restored Oak Savanna at the Creative Center. Our walk will focus on unique characteristics of prairie flowers and grasses as well as cultural and natural history of the prairie landscape. Bring binoculars if you have them.     Ages 18 and up. Begin building your blacksmith skills by forging your own bottle opener! Bottle Openers are quick to make and can incorporate all basic blacksmithing processes in one compact project. End class with a celebratory bottle-opening to try out your new tool (that means a beer or soda is included!). Open to all experience levels. Class is limited to 8 participants. Please note the following before registering: *Wear closed toe shoes and dress in layers. Wear clothes you can get dirty. *Face masks are recommended but not required. *It is recommended that you bring your own work gloves and safety glasses.     Experience the legendary Cemetery Walking Tour visiting various cemeteries, reviewing the history of early Saint Paul and the men and women who made it happen. Please note there are no bathrooms and transportation is on your own between the multiple locations visited. (the open gate on Front Street) Second Night: Meet at Oakland Cemetery, 927 Jackson Street, Saint Paul, MN 55117. (Meet in the parking lot by the office at Oakland Cemetery) Third Night: Meet at Temple Mount Zion Cemetery, 1670 Payne Avenue, St Paul, MN 55117.     Within just a few square miles in Saint Paul's Summit Hill neighborhood, F. Scott Fitzgerald met people and experienced things that would shape his life and career as a writer. Fitzgerald lived in other cities during his lifetime, but it was Saint Paul that he revisited in his writing time and time again. Come stroll this historic neighborhood to hear and see how he spent his formative years - from his prep school education to learning the waltz to bringing his new baby home from the hospital. Tour will begin from: 25 North Dale, St Paul 55102, one block north of Summit Avenue. Participants must be able to walk approximately 3 miles on fairly flat terrain without places to sit.
