Upon his retirement, he co-founded the East Side Freedom Library, which has transformed the historic Carnegie library formerly know as Arlington Hills Library into a site for resources, programming, and conversations about labor, immigration, and racial and gender justice. In the fall of 2022 Peter "retired" again, turning the reins of the ESFL over to a new executive director. but he continues to be involved there. He is also teaching for SPPS Adult and Community Ed and the U of M's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
