Wooly Birds

Classes for Adults / Art & Music -
Spring 2025-Adult

Knit, felt, and embellish a woolly bird to look like a robin, a cardinal, or a chickadee. Knit your feathered friend using worsted weight yarn and be introduced to simple needle felting techniques to embellish your bird and make it your own. Previous experience with double knitting point needles required.

On the first day of class we'll knit on double point needles and go over the fundamentals of felting.  During the second class you'll build and embellish your bird with needle felting and simple embroidery.  Please note - Between classes there will be homework.  You will need to finish knitting, felt and stuff your bird before the second class.

This class has a supply list. See photos to help you decide which bird to make. You will make one bird during class, but leave with a pattern to make more on your own.

  • All will need US 10.5 double point needles (set of 5), and a stitch marker tapestry needle.  In addition, buy the yarn needed to make one of the following birds (your choice!):
    • Robin: 1 skein dark-charcoal grey #4 100% wool (not superwash) worsted weight yarn
    • Chickadee: 1 skein black (head) and 1 skein grey (body) #4 100% wool (not superwash) worsted weight yarn
    • Cardinal: 1 skein red #4 100% wool (not superwash) worsted weight yarn
