Elizabeth (“E.B.”) Barnard studied piano as well as numerous other instruments throughout her childhood. Her first dream was to be an orchestra conductor. Since high school she has studied the relationship between music and mathematics. She has given music lessons to young people since 1967. She uses creative ways for students to access their heart and express their own enjoyment of music.
Students often learn to read music without regard for how things sound or how to produce a pleasing sound. Elizabeth works with students early on rhythm, habits of how to hear, how to address the piano, how to produce different kinds of sounds, and later, work with printed materials. She works with Bartok’s Mikrokosmos for learning to read as well as hear music.
