Level 1: Fearful SwimmerAquaticsWaitlist-For children 5-10 years old who have anxiety or are fearful of the water. Gain confidence in the water and work on floating, gliding, kicking, and learn the basics of front crawl, back crawl, and elementary back stroke. Swimmers will be supported and assisted by the instructor for most skills. Locker rooms will be available for changing out of swim attire after class. Showers will not be available. Please come prepared to swim and free of lotions, and other body and hair products. Plan to shower at home after class. Bathrooms will still be available. All Community Education participants are required to follow SPPS COVID guidelines (https://www.spps.org/safelearningplan), and all other communicated health and safety expectations. Level 3AquaticsLevel 3 -For children 5-11 years old and have completed Level 2 or have equivalent skills. Swimmers must be able to swim front and back crawl independently and will work to increase the distance and technique of those strokes. Other skills include elementary backstroke, scissors kick, dolphin kick, glides, and jumps into deeper water. All Community Education participants are required to follow SPPS COVID guidelines (https://www.spps.org/safelearningplan), and all other communicated health and safety expectations. Level 4AquaticsLevel 4 -For children 6-14 years old and have completed Level 3 or have equivalent skills. Class will take place entirely in deep water. Swimmers must be able to swim front crawl (with rotary breathing), back crawl, and elementary backstroke and be comfortable swimming in deep water. Swimmers will further develop front and back crawl and elementary backstroke and will be introduced to diving, sidestroke and breaststroke. All Community Education participants are required to follow SPPS COVID guidelines (https://www.spps.org/safelearningplan), and all other communicated health and safety expectations. Level 5AquaticsLevel 5 -For children 6-14 years old and have completed Level 4 or have equivalent skills. Class will take place entirely in deep water. Swimmers must be comfortable swimming in deep water and will further refine each stroke and their distances. Other skills include butterfly, surface dives, dives, and open turns. Swimmers will continue to improve each of the six strokes and work on endurance and will learn open turns and flip turns. If child is not potty trained, child must wear plastic pants or swim diapers in the pool. No disposable diapers allowed. Locker rooms will be available for changing out of swim attire after class.
