A Road Trip Around Minnesota: Barn Quilt Trails - Online Course
Minnesota is fortunate to have several Barn Quilt Trails. Pieces of art that adorn the side of barns and buildings throughout the state are set up to not only pay homage to heritage or interests; but to bring people into an area. Take this photo journey to experience some of Minnesota’s most stunning building art. This class is being offered using the Zoom online platform. Belwin Conservancy: Amphibians & Reptiles of Minnesota
Minnesota is home to a number of amphibians and reptiles and some of these call the Belwin Conservancy home. Hike this beautiful and diverse area to seek out the reptiles and amphibians that live here. Discuss their life cycles, explore their habitats, and discover what makes these animals so special. Prepare to hike on trail and off for a good share of the time. Closed toed hiking shoes or rubber boots, long pants, tick protection, and a water bottle are highly recommended. Experience the legendary Cemetery Walking Tour visiting various cemeteries, reviewing the history of early Saint Paul and the men and women who made it happen. Transportation between locations is on your own. Full schedule of locations available in course listing online. District del Sol Walking Tour
Walk the West Side’s District Del Sol including Cesar Chavez Avenue, Wellstone Center and El Burrito Mercado. Murals, art, vibrant colors, rich aromas – experience true Mexican culture and learn about the waves of immigrants who shaped the community. Stay for an optional lunch at El Burrito. The tour will be approximately 2 1/2 miles in length. Explore the aboveground world that is the skyway system in Saint Paul! Learn about its history, discover new places, and find your way with an experienced skywalker. Walk is approximately 4 miles, fairly flat terrain. Dragon Boats - Paddle- Up!
Experience the fun of Paddling a 40-foot dragon boat as part of a 22-member crew on beautiful Lake Phalen! The Minnesota Dragon Boat Club provides land training, life jacket, paddle, and a coach in the boat culminating in an informal race or two. New sport, great exercise, new friends! F. Scott Fitzgerald's Summit Hill Walking Tour
Within just a few square miles in Saint Paul's Summit Hill neighborhood, F. Scott Fitzgerald met people and experienced things that would shape his life and career as a writer. Fitzgerald lived in other cities during his lifetime, but it was Saint Paul that he revisited in his writing time and time again. Come stroll this historic neighborhood to hear and see how he spent his formative years - from his prep school education to learning the waltz to bringing his new baby home from the hospital. Tour will begin from: 25 North Dale, St Paul 55102, one block north of Summit Avenue. Participants must be able to walk approximately 3 miles on fairly flat terrain without places to sit. Irvine Park Walking Tour
Before Summit Avenue, Irvine Park was the preferred address for prominent St. Paulites. This residential oasis just west of downtown showcases a sampling of Victorian era architecture and park design. Learn about the homes and the people who lived there. Lake Avenue Stroll
Stroll the shores of White Bear Lake and discover the history of how White Bear Lake developed. Walk the west shore of the lake from Lion’s Park to Matoska Park and back (approximately 2 miles round trip). Signs of the first settlement and businesses developed along this shore can still be seen today. Fee: $20 Guide: White Bear Lake Historical Society. Lowertown Walking Tour: Saint Paul’s Humble Beginnings
Early Saint Paul was formed in Lowertown on the banks of the Mississippi. Hear about Lowertown’s evolution from whiskey stop to steam whistles to today’s hotspot (old Pig’s Eye would be amazed at the transformation!). Memorials and Monuments: Minnesota State Capitol Grounds Walking Tour
Visit the Cass Gilbert State Capitol grounds; a mall of memorials, sculptures, carved walkways and hidden treasures. Hear stories not told in books, but brought to life through art with bronze, woven metal trellises, spiraling pyramids, paving stones and hammered steel. This tour is of the grounds only; we will not be going inside the Capitol. Tour will begin from the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol: 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Saint Paul, MN 55155. Mendota Walking Tour
Stroll through early Minnesota History with a walking tour of the City of Mendota. Learn about the geological history of the land and also the abundant wildlife that finds its home there. We'll learn about the Native American history of the area through the early European-American settlers up to the present day. And take in historic sites including St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Sibley Historic Site, and the main street buildings of Mendota. Tour covers approximately 1.5 - 2 miles.
