  • Belwin Conservancy: Frog Walk Adult + Child

    One adult and one child, age 8-15. Register under the child's name. Leap and learn around Belwin’s Bulrush Slough and delight in the spring croaks of the frogs during this especially active time of year. Our hike is approximately one mile and will be on a paved trail. Please dress for the weather. This program will go rain or shine. Closed toed hiking shoes or rubber boots, long pants, tick protection, and a water bottle are highly recommended.     Have a "cap"-tivating time learning about Minnesota's most common mushrooms! Leave with the knowledge to find and identify mushrooms on your own. A short hike is included; dress appropriately. Note: No mushrooms are to be foraged at this class or on Belwin’s property. Note: this is not a class in foraging and/or cooking with mushrooms.     Wetlands are an exciting place in the spring! Hiking through the Belwin wetlands, take in the rich variety of plant and animal species these distinct ecosystems have to offer. Prepare to hike up to 2 miles on trail and off for a good share of the time.   • Belwin Conservancy: Prairie Restoration

    Hike one of Belwin’s early restorations and learn about some of the challenges and rewards of bringing back a native habitat. We will meet in the main parking lot for the Stagecoach Prairie hiking area. Hiking is on uneven ground with some steep hills. Length of hike is up to 2 miles. Dress for the weather and wear good hiking shoes. Recommended to bring water. Binoculars are suggested but not essential. Tour Activity Rating: 4 (Demanding - Extensive walking/stairs/standing)
  • Bison at Belwin - A Closer Look at an Iconic Animal

    Bison are the largest grazing mammal in the United States and key to a healthy prairie. Learn why a bison herd exists, the benefits bison bring to a prairie, see bison artifacts, walk on the prairie, and get an up-close look at these amazing animals from the custom-made bison buggy. Wear shoes appropriate for walking off trail, bring water, dress for weather, little shade available. Tour Activity Rating: 3 (Demanding- extensive walking/stairs//standing)
  • Cemetery Walking Tour

    Experience the legendary Cemetery Walking Tour visiting various cemeteries, reviewing the history of early Saint Paul and the men and women who made it happen. Please note there are no bathrooms and transportation is on your own between the multiple locations visited. Tour Activity Rating: 4 (Demanding - extensive walking/stairs/standing) First Night: Meet at the East Gate of Calvary Cemetery, 753 Front Avenue, Saint Paul, MN 55103. (the open gate on Front Street) Second Night: Meet at Oakland Cemetery, 927 Jackson Street, Saint Paul, MN 55117. (Meet in the parking lot by the office at Oakland Cemetery) Third Night: Meet at Temple Mount Zion Cemetery, 1670 Payne Avenue, St Paul, MN 55117. (NE corner of Payne and Larpenteur) We will visit other locations this night as well - transportation is on your own. *Please note there will be walking on both flat and uneven terrain each night, with few places to sit. * *Only participants listed on tour roster may attend the tour.   • Cherokee Park and Path Walking Tour

    Hike through and hear about the land and the history of Saint Paul’s West Side Cherokee Park. See the Mississippi River from various lookout points. Bring binoculars to observe the birds. There will be some moderate hiking through the woods, so good walking or hiking shoes are suggested. Walk is approximately 2.8 miles on uneven terrain. There will be few, if any, places to sit.   • District del Sol Walking Tour

    Walk the West Side’s District Del Sol, including Cesar Chavez Avenue, Wellstone Center, and El Burrito Mercado. Murals, art and rich aromas galore! Learn about the waves of immigrants who shaped the community. Stay for an optional lunch at El Burrito Mercado. Tour covers approximately 2.5 miles. Lunch purchases are on your own.     Within just a few square miles in Saint Paul's Summit Hill neighborhood, F. Scott Fitzgerald met people and experienced things that would shape his life and career as a writer. Stroll this historic neighborhood while hearing tales of how he spent his formative years. Tour will begin from: 25 North Dale, St Paul 55102, one block north of Summit Avenue.   • Hamm’s Brewery History & Tasting Tour

    Theodore Hamm accidentally inherited a brewery and founded one of Saint Paul’s most iconic businesses! Hear his story and visit parts of the old Hamm’s Brewery. Afterwards visit Saint Paul Brewing to get a lesson on brewing beer and go behind the scenes at 11 Wells Distillery to learn about making spirits. Tour includes tastings. Once one of the city's largest speakeasys and the home of the iconic Heimie’s Haberdashery, it's unique history also involves a kidnapping or two, and might just be haunted! The tour will include a behind the scenes tour of the iconic Heimie’s Haberdashery, a St Paul business founded in 1922. Includes a stop in their hand-crafted leather shop in the sub basement.   • Introduction to Kayaking

    Explore the sport of kayaking and receive instruction on basic strokes, kayaking safety, and boat/equipment selection. Most of our time will be spent out on the water, paddling and getting comfortable in the boats. No experience is necessary, and all equipment is included.   • Lowertown Walking Tour: Saint Paul’s Humble Beginnings

    Early Saint Paul was formed in Lowertown on the banks of the Mississippi. Hear about Lowertown’s evolution from whiskey stop to steam whistles to today’s hotspot (old Pig’s Eye would be amazed at the transformation!). Tour covers approximately 2 miles with limited places to sit.     Visit the Cass Gilbert State Capitol grounds; a mall of memorials, sculptures, carved walkways and hidden treasures.
