    For motorists 55 years of age and older. Explore changes in traffic laws and traffic safety, the latest vehicle technology, and easy-to-use defensive driving and accident-prevention tips. Completion of these courses will produce approximately a 10% decrease in your car insurance. The 8-hour course is required for first-time students; the 4-hour refresher is required every three years thereafter. All classes are taught by the Minnesota Highway Safety & Research Center. Certificates are issued at the end of class. Certificates will be issued to those completing the course.   • Behind-the-Wheel Practice: Adult

    This course is for adults (18 years and older) with a valid driver's permit who need additional practice driving behind-the-wheel in preparation for their license exam. Behind-the-wheel procedures: Students will drive one-on-one with an instructor in an SPPS District vehicle. Specific lesson dates and times will be arranged with your instructor. Allow 6-8 weeks to complete your lessons. Rush or last-minute appointments are not available. Students have 6 months from the date of payment to complete their behind-the-wheel lesson. Students will arrange a pick up and drop of location with the instructor. Students who live outside of St. Paul need to make arrangements to begin and end their lesson in St. Paul. A $50 cancellation fee will be fined to students who do not show for their scheduled lesson, who cancel their lesson less than 24 hours in advance, and to students who do not have their permit with them in the vehicle for their lesson. Fee: $140 for 1 2-hour lesson You will not be charged the course fee until your driver's permit is verified. You will be notified at that time and you can complete the payment online.   • Belwin Conservancy: Hiking into the Night

    Explore the other half of the day, when the darkness envelopes our world. We will begin inside with a brief overview of winter night life at Belwin and then head out to witness the beauty of the dark. We will end our evening with light refreshments around a fire. Come dressed in layers for any weather, wear comfortable hiking footwear for the season, bring water. Flashlight or headlight with red light option is optional. Open to all ages 12 and above. Those 12-16 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Tour Activity Rating : 4 (Demanding - Extensive walking/stairs/standing) No Refunds will be issued within 15 business days of a day tour.   • Blacksmith Fundamentals: Bottle Openers

    Ages 18 and up. Begin building your blacksmith skills by forging your own bottle opener! Bottle openers are quick to make and can incorporate all basic blacksmithing processes in one compact project. End class with a celebratory bottle-opening to try out your new tool (that means a beer or soda is included!). Open to all experience levels. Please note the following before registering: *Wear closed toe shoes and dress in layers. Wear clothes you can get dirty. *Face masks are recommended but not required. *It is recommended that you bring your own work gloves and safety glasses. If you can't, there will be some to use; you will be asked to help sanitize them after use. *The Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center is located near George Floyd Square and the street with access to the parking lot may be closed to traffic. Please give yourself a little extra travel time in case you need to find street parking a block or two from the studio.

  • Easy Ethiopian/Eritrean Cooking

    In this free Introduction to Meditation class, you will focus on two easy meditation techniques to help you manage stress: mindfulness and walking. In these difficult times, most of us are being faced with challenges that we never expected. We cannot control outside forces. What we can do, is do our best to not let the stress overwhelm us. In this completely free Intro to Meditation class, I’ll show you two easy techniques to help you manage stress. We’ll focus on two types of meditation: Mindfulness and Walking. The walking meditation is designed for all ages and after practicing it yourself, is great for sharing with children age 3+. Please arrive 10 minutes early.
