Kids Cook: Cupcakes
Entering grades 3-6. Are you wildly creative? Why not harness that imagination into an edible wonder? In this hands-on class, one of our chefs will guide you through baking cupcakes and a muffin with a selection of icings and/or fillings. Bring some creativity to this fun-packed class! Kids Cook: Empanadas
Entering grades 3-6. Empanadas are the international hand pie. These delicious dough pockets are filled with sweet or savory goodness and burst with flavor when you bite into them ... ahhh! Create mouthwatering hand pies with the guidance of one of our chefs. Yum! Menu: Empanada Fillings: Pulled Chicken; Apple and Dulce de Leche. Kids Cook: Pasta
Entering Grades 3-6. Is pasta your favorite food? If you can say “Absolutely, pasta-tively!” this is the class for you. One of our chefs will teach you how to make your own pasta dough with a few simple ingredients. If you thought pasta was good, come see how delicious it can be when you make it yourself! Kids Cook: Patisserie
Entering grades 3-6. One of our chefs is ready to guide you into the world of French patisserie! This class is designed for those who are ready to learn how to make first-class French pastries. Sign up for pastry heaven. Menu: Pastry Cream Filled Eclairs; Crepes with Ham and Cheese; Sables. Kinder Flips
For gymnasts who are progressing at an advanced level. Coach approval required. Leaping Lilies (non-competitive pre-team)
Ages 6 and up. Coach approval required. Leaping Lilies from the 2021-22 season should talk to their coaches on whether to enroll for Lilies in the summer or to instead enroll for the Team Silver and Blue summer course. Level 1
Level 1 -For children 5-10 years old. Gain confidence in the water and work on floating, gliding, kicking, and learn the basics of front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke. Level 1: Fearful Swimmer
-For children 5-10 years old who have anxiety or are fearful of the water. Gain confidence in the water and work on floating, gliding, kicking, and learn the basics of front crawl, back crawl, and elementary back stroke. Swimmers will be supported and assisted by the instructor for most skills. Locker rooms will be available for changing out of swim attire after class. Showers will not be available. Please come prepared to swim and free of lotions, and other body and hair products. Plan to shower at home after class. Bathrooms will still be available. Level 2 --For children 5-10 years old and have completed Level 1 or have equivalent skills. Swimmers must be comfortable in the water and will work on floating, gliding, front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke. Level 3
Level 3 -For children 5-11 years old and have completed Level 2 or have equivalent skills. Swimmers must be able to swim front and back crawl independently and will work to increase the distance and technique of those strokes. Other skills include elementary backstroke, scissors kick, dolphin kick, glides, and jumps into deeper water. All Community Education participants are required to follow SPPS COVID guidelines (https://www.spps.org/safelearningplan), and all other communicated health and safety expectations. Failure to do so could result in removal from the class/program. -
Level 4
Level 4 -For children 6-14 years old and have completed Level 3 or have equivalent skills. Class will take place entirely in deep water. Swimmers must be able to swim front crawl (with rotary breathing), back crawl, and elementary backstroke and be comfortable swimming in deep water. Swimmers will further develop front and back crawl and elementary backstroke and will be introduced to diving, sidestroke and breaststroke. All Community Education participants are required to follow SPPS COVID guidelines (https://www.spps.org/safelearningplan), and all other communicated health and safety expectations. Failure to do so could result in removal from the class/program. -
Level 5
Level 5 -For children 6-14 years old and have completed Level 4 or have equivalent skills. Class will take place entirely in deep water. Swimmers must be comfortable swimming in deep water and will further refine each stroke and their distances. Other skills include butterfly, surface dives, dives, and open turns. All Community Education participants are required to follow SPPS COVID guidelines (https://www.spps.org/safelearningplan), and all other communicated health and safety expectations. Failure to do so could result in removal from the class/program. -
Level 6
Level 6 -For children 7-14 years old and have completed Level 5 or have equivalent skills. Class will take place entirely in deep water. Swimmers will continue to improve each of the six strokes and work on endurance and will learn open turns and flip turns. All Community Education participants are required to follow SPPS COVID guidelines (https://www.spps.org/safelearningplan), and all other communicated health and safety expectations. Failure to do so could result in removal from the class/program. -
Level 7
Level 7 -For children 7-14 years old and have completed Level 6 or have equivalent skills. Class will take place entirely in deep water. Swimmers will work on swimming with more efficiency and power through the use of training techniques and distance swimming. All Community Education participants are required to follow SPPS COVID guidelines (https://www.spps.org/safelearningplan), and all other communicated health and safety expectations. Failure to do so could result in removal from the class/program. -
Mandarin Immersion Camp
Entering Grades 1-5. Join your friends and cook, sing, create and play, all in Mandarin. Camp is conducted entirely in Mandarin and is designed for youth with significant background in Mandarin. Bring a bag lunch. Middle School and High School Gymnastics
For ages 12-18. No experience required. Coaches will differentiate for different skill levels. -
Mini Camp: Beyond Pokémon
Grades 1-5. Are you crazy for Pokémon? Put your Pokémon skills to work as you create Pokémon inspired art. Work with a variety of art materials as you make your own trading cards, Pokémon balls, a Pokémon-inspired creature, and a map of its habitat. All Community Education participants are required to follow SPPS COVID guidelines (https://www.spps.org/safelearningplan), and all other communicated health and safety expectations. Mini Camp: Brick Builders - Varsity Builders
Entering Grade 1-5. Have you ever dreamed of launching a rocket into the sky? Learn how to build a real rocket with common materials that can be found in a recycling bin! Experiment with multiple design, building, and recovery techniques. A rocket launch time is part of the program and equipment is provided. Mini Camp: Build Your Own Folding Campfire Chair
Entering grades 4-5. Using hand tools and a variety of materials, build and decorate your very own folding Campfire Chair! An instructor from Urban Boatbuilders will guide you through the construction of this compact and portable chair, introducing you to woodworking, construction, tool use and design. Once you have built your Campfire Chair, use provided paints and finishes to customize it using design principles that you have learned. Whether you take it out to sit by a campfire or carry it around the house so you always have a seat, the folding Campfire Chair can go with you anywhere and always impress! Mini Camp: Chess N' Motion
Entering Grades 1-5. Challenge your mind and body this summer. Make your brain sweat learning and playing chess, then move your body with fun and active group games. Chess skills cover the beginner to intermediate players and group games are tailored to the interests and abilities of our group. Keep your heads and hearts active! Mini Camp: Coding
Entering Grades 1-5. Coding is the future. Code is in so many aspects of our lives that it is becoming more important for all young learners to have some exposure to code. YEL Coding classes leverage the excellent platform of Scratch® for beginning to intermediate grade school coders and Micro:Bit® for upper grade school and middle school coders. Entering Grades 1-5. Glitter and glam, we’ve got it all! Come and create awesome L.O.L. Surprise projects using clay, paint, and more every day of this exciting camp. You will even make a diorama that a real L.O.L Surprise Doll could call home. Please pack a nut free snack and drink each day of camp.
