  • Belwin Conservancy: Take a Walk on the Wild Side - Native Prairie Plants

    Explore the prairie of Belwin Conservancy and immerse yourself in the late summer colors and textures of the restored Oak Savanna at the Creative Center. Our walk will focus on unique characteristics of prairie flowers and grasses as well as cultural and natural history of the prairie landscape. Bring binoculars if you have them. Wearing comfortable hiking footwear, long pants for tick protection and bring water is recommended.   • Blacksmith Fundamentals: Bottle Openers

    Ages 18 and up. Begin building your blacksmith skills by forging your own bottle opener! Bottle Openers are quick to make and can incorporate all basic blacksmithing processes in one compact project. End class with a celebratory bottle-opening to try out your new tool (that means a beer or soda is included!). Open to all experience levels. Class is limited to 8 participants. Please note the following before registering: *Wear closed toe shoes and dress in layers. Wear clothes you can get dirty. *Face masks are recommended but not required. *It is recommended that you bring your own work gloves and safety glasses. If you can't, there will be some to use; you will be asked to help sanitize them after use. *The Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center is located near George Floyd Square and the street with access to the parking lot may be closed to traffic. Please give yourself a little extra travel time in case you need to find street parking a block or two from the studio.

As straightforward as sketchbooks and journals or as complicated as moveable poetry feasts, the forms can mirror the content. All will cause you to look at books differently.     Within just a few square miles in Saint Paul's Summit Hill neighborhood, F. Scott Fitzgerald met people and experienced things that would shape his life and career as a writer. Fitzgerald lived in other cities during his lifetime, but it was Saint Paul that he revisited in his writing time and time again. Come stroll this historic neighborhood to hear and see how he spent his formative years - from his prep school education to learning the waltz to bringing his new baby home from the hospital.
