Beginning and Intermediate Pottery & Wheelwork

Receive expert instruction in throwing pieces on the wheel. Hand-building is also covered at Harding High School.  Clay and glazes will be used. Fee includes supplies. Additional fee for extra clay.


Please note-

Classes at Central High School use an electric wheel. Parking at Central is in the school's parking lot.

Classes at Harding High School use an electric wheel. Parking at Harding is in the school's parking lot.

Classes at Creative Arts use a kick-wheel. Parking at Creative Arts can be validated as long as you park in the parking ramp on the same city block as the school.

Tom Cook


Tom received his BA in Art in 1989, his teaching certificate in 1993, and has been teaching art, primarily ceramics, at Harding High School since 1995. He taught ceramics for Community Education at Harding for about 10 years before taking a hiatus.  Now with a new, improved ceramics room at Harding he accommodate an adult class once more! Tom enjoys teaching to all levels, has tons of ideas and can make just about anything out of clay.

Mark Johnson


Mark received his BSED in Art Education from Northern Illinois University but didn't begin his work in clay until later in life when he discovered a ceramics class in Minneapolis. He seized this lifelong learning opportunity and delved into the rich ceramic culture of the Twin cities. After several years he began teaching with Saint Paul Community Ed.

Chris Singewald


Chris Singewald received his Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Ceramics from the University of Northern Iowa. After graduating, he was an apprentice for internationally renowned ceramic artist Chris Gustin in South Dartmouth, MA. Currently, Singewald is the Clay Studio Manager at Artistry, and a studio artist at Northern Clay Center and teaches classes throughout the Twin Cities for Northern Clay Center and Artistry. He has extensive experience leading clay workshops and is passionate about bringing positive clay experiences to students.

David Swenson


David "Swen" Swenson has been teaching people of all ages across the Twin Cities Metro area for over 9 years, including at the Bloomington Art Center, and Northern Clay Center where he was also a Fogelberg Fellow in 2009.  He has a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Studio Ceramics from Alfred University.
