American Sign Language 1

Classes for Adults / Language & Writing -
Summer 2023 - Adult

Gain the foundation for understanding ASL and signing basic words and phrases. Start with the Manual Alphabet, numbers, and how to make proper signs. Then explore word order and how to form sentences in ASL. Engage in cultural and historical conversations around ASL and activities to grow your everyday vocabulary.

All Community Education participants are required to follow SPPS COVID guidelines (https://www.spps.org/safelearningplan), and all other communicated health and safety expectations. Failure to do so could result in removal from the class/program.

Travis Sulander

Travis has been working within the Deaf community since 2010—as an ASL Interpreter since 2018—and has been teaching ASL classes since 2017. He loves introducing the hearing community to all things ASL–the signs, culture, community, etiquette, and grammar–while keeping the lessons both educational and entertaining.
