Join Catherine White from Black Roots Sauces and Seasonings as she shares the stories and diverse influences that shaped her culinary heritage. Make my family’s version of collard greens with smoked turkey, my grandmother's hot water cornbread, and her version of Pico de Gallo that will leave your taste buds dancing.

Hi, I'm Catherine E. White! I'm a wife, a mom of three, and I love cooking at home. I grew up in California and now live in Minnesota with my husband and children. I started cooking when I was five. My mother had gotten very ill, and she was able to talk me through the process of making a PB&J sandwich which became my task for almost two days. I’ve been cooking ever since.

During my summers I spent time in Texas with my grandparents, I admired their generosity to share with the community from their backyard garden. When back home, my dad taught me kitchen safety and cooking basics, letting my creativity bloom. The local Public Broadcasting Station ran cooking shows like Julia Child (The French Chef), Martin Yan (Yan Can Cook) and Jacques Pépin (Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home) that inspired me to further explore the culinary world. I don't have fancy training or restaurant experiences, but the smiles, oooh’s, and awww’s from my family motivate me to do more. Cooking is a part of life, and whether it's simple or challenging, do it with love and you’ll never do it wrong!
